Despite several challenges, Biometric mobile is emerging as a viable technology. Demand for biomobile is spurred by the need to spread mobile banking to remote areas in developing countries. Equally growing is the demand from urban users wanting to do secure mobile banking and access myriad of applications through touch screens. Meanwhile research is continuing on advanced aspects like sensors for multi-modal authorization, evaluation of different biometric modes, evolving standards for calibration and testing etc. There is significant sensitivity to respect privacy needs of customers as a means to elicit voluntary acceptance of biometric usage. Legal frameworks of various countries are being reshaped to address this concern. Technological improvements in mobile phones and low cost networks have helped widespread geographical application.
Biometric phones offer additional layer of security in increasingly user-friendly ways. As the user base of mobile phones grows multifold in the coming years, large scale deployment of biometric mobile phones is a distinct possibility.
